  • All safety systems managed by qualified guides
  • Multiple abseil setups suited to different comfort levels
  • Social, supportive group environment
  • Short 10-minute approach walk from car park
  • Abseil on the highest peak (1,011m) of Mount Macedon
  • Experience abseiling on 400 million-year-old geology

Location & Cultural Significance

We operate on the lands of the Wurundjeri people, with Geboor (or Geburrh) being the traditional name for Mount Macedon. This area is also significant to the Dja Dja Wurrung and Taungurung peoples.

Meeting Location

We meet at Camel's Hump Car Park. The approach walk to the abseiling sites is generally less than 10 minutes from the car park, making this an accessible adventure for groups of varying fitness levels.

What do we need to own/bring?

  • All abseiling safety equipment is supplied by The Climbing Company, however if you own any of the following equipment please bring it along with you – learning with your own equipment is far better and will provide a great start to your abseiling experience!
  • Helmet *
  • Harness
  • Locking carabiners
  • Belay/abseil device
  • Approach shoes or hiking boots
  • Helmets are worn on all outdoor Climbing Company courses – but as with all of the other safety equipment, we have these if you don't own one.

Non-abseiling equipment: You will need to bring suitable clothing and footwear for the short approach hike. Mount Macedon is typically a few degrees cooler than Melbourne and weather can be unpredictable – please bring a jacket even on warm days. Bring your own lunch and water for the day (and a camera for spectacular Macedon Ranges views!).

Important Notes

  • Facilities: No toilets at the car park – please use facilities before arrival. The nearby McGregor's picnic ground has some public toilets, or the nearest café (Mt Macedon Trading Post) is approximately 5 minutes drive away.
  • Weather: Conditions can change rapidly. Tours may be cancelled on days of Total Fire Ban or if there is a threat from local wildfire.
  • Approach: Short 10-minute walk from car park to abseiling sites.

I have never abseiled before. Is this tour suitable for me?

Absolutely! This tour is perfect for hiking groups and outdoor enthusiasts wanting to add abseiling to their skill set. The short approach walk and variety of abseil options make this ideal for groups of mixed abilities. We can tailor the experience to your comfort level, starting with easier descents and progressing as your confidence grows. No previous experience required – just enthusiasm for adventure!

Perfect for Hiking Groups

This location is ideal for hiking clubs and outdoor groups due to:

  • Easy access (just 1 hour from Melbourne)
  • Short approach walk suitable for all fitness levels
  • Multiple abseil options for groups of varying experience
  • Spectacular views and unique geological setting
  • Nearby attractions including Hanging Rock and open gardens
